Does your local library provide services and special events for adults and seniors?

Are there reading groups, computer training, social opportunities, writing groups and other programs that encourage seniors to use the library?

Do you have suggestions?Does your local library provide services and special events for adults and seniors?
Yes, in our small town of less than 100 population, they have a morning coffee every day it's open, to discuss what they've read (as well as whatever the local news is for the day!) Someone usually brings goodies and if not, they snack on graham crackers or whatever.Does your local library provide services and special events for adults and seniors?
Thank you! Bogey

It's wonderful to see places that put (kids)as well as seniors, to have a place to expand their minds....what a gift to see this happening in this day and age of so little funding.

Sadly our library services have been cut way back and our library is only open about 3 days a week and on short hours. To much funding going else where and not (or is not ) allowing or seniors or adults to be taken into the fold of learning.
Yes, our local library does provide all that....but the one that I enjoy the very most is volunteering to help with their homework all the kids who get dumped off at the library in the afternoons...instead of sent to a daycare facility.

There are lots of young couples struggling now....especially with the high unemployment in our city....and many who would like to be able to afford after-school daycare for their children until they, themselves, get off work....are having to use the library as a "free" after-school dump off place.

The library was not staffed or equipped to deal with all these dumped-off children...and asked for volunteers...seniors and otherwise...to come in and help by sitting at a table of school children to help "watch" them and offer whatever homework help they could.

We have "math" tables...."reading" tables....geography tables.....and just plain "sitting and being good if you have no homework" tables.

Many seniors in my city spend the greater part of their days at the library in hot weather and in cold.....saves them from having to heat/cool their houses....and these volunteer projects and senior "classes" that they both hold %26amp; attend....are a great way to fill up the hours of what might otherwise be a boring and expensive day spent at home alone....and PAYING for heating and cooling.

Funny how there is always some sort of good thing to be had from volunteering, isn't it? I mean good thing even past it being the right thing to do?
