Example, I imagine the works of shakespeare would be a good inclusion, as would the books by Stanislovsky. So what is the essential list of books in the actor's library? What essential books belong in the actor's personal library?
Depends on what kind of acting you're interested in. Meisner's On Acting is good, as well as Boleslavsky's The First Six Lessons. Strasberg At The Actors Studio. Michael Shurtleff's Audition book is good. It's a good idea to build a library of plays as well, so you may as well start with the masters. O'Neill, Williams, Miller, Shepard, Stoppard, et al. Monologue books are good to have around. I also like Brestoff's Acting Under the Circumstances. It's a much more practical application of some of the things Stanislavsky talks about in his books.
