Every time iTunes updates my library disappears even though all the files are still in the same location. I have to mess around trying to link the files back in, sometimes works and other times I just have to add the files again. Any ideas? Why do I lose the connection of my itunes library whenever itunes is updated?
It's a bug that apple have yet to resolve I'm afraid. It can also be caused by De-Fragmenting your HD or deleting temporary windows files; but there's a way to restore it- don't worry.
All of your library information (aside from album artwork which is stored in the itunes%26gt;album artwork folder) is stored in a single file called 'iTunes Library.itl'. If you have system restores enabled, then you can right-click on that file (which is usually in the my music%26gt;itunes folder) and either:
1) Select 'restore previous versions' and choose which version you'd like to restore; normally the most recent will restore your library to its former glory!
OR
2) Select 'properties' click on the 'Previous Versions' tab, and THEN choose whatever version you need to.
I do recommend backing up your album artwork and that .itl file every now and then though- just in case. Even if it's just in another location on your hard-drive.
SUMMARY:
My Music%26gt;iTunes%26gt;(right click on) 'iTunes Library.itl'%26gt;Restore previous versions%26gt;select most recent version%26gt;OK.
Hope that helps!
